Question bank QA

I go through your questions and find the broken ones: wrong answer keys, explanations that don't match, outdated references, questions with two right answers.

You get a spreadsheet of every problem, ranked by severity, with a suggested fix for each. Your experts make the final call on every change.

Who this is for

  • • Exam-prep publishers with banks of hundreds or thousands of practice questions
  • • Certification bodies and associations that write and refresh their own items
  • • Continuing-education providers with a test attached to every course

It is most useful when something is about to change: a new exam outline, a new code edition, a platform move, or a run of customer complaints about questions.

What I check

Answer keys

Numeric questions are recomputed from scratch. Conceptual ones are checked twice, independently, and any disagreement goes to a person.

Explanations

Does the rationale actually support the keyed answer, and does it contradict any of the wrong options?

Question quality

Ambiguous wording, two defensible answers, "all of the above", clues in the options, implausible distractors, near-duplicate questions.

Currency

References to superseded code editions, regulations or exam outlines that you name.

Blueprint tagging

Every question mapped to your current exam outline by topic, subtopic and difficulty, with gaps and over-coverage counted.

What you get

  • • A question-by-question spreadsheet: every flag, its severity, and a suggested fix
  • • A short findings summary: counts by problem type and content area
  • • A 30-minute walkthrough call
  • • Light edits to the flagged questions. Writing new questions or full explanations is quoted separately.

How it works

  1. A 20-minute call about how your bank is maintained and what is coming up.
  2. You send an export of the questions, with answer keys and explanations, plus your current exam outline.
  3. I run the checks and send draft findings, then a final report. Typical turnaround is two to three weeks.
  4. Your team reviews the flagged questions. I answer questions about the findings for two weeks afterwards.

Pricing is a fixed fee by number of questions, agreed before work starts, with half paid up front and half on delivery. I quote it after the first call.

Your questions stay yours

My own prep business serves different exams in a different country, so there is no overlap with yours. I won't copy, reuse, or train anything on your questions, and I delete all files 30 days after delivery. I put that in our agreement.

Work happens under your NDA, and questions only go through AI services whose terms exclude training on submitted data. Live, high-security exam questions need a separate written data agreement first.

Why me

I run Physics Notebook, an exam-prep platform in India, where the question bank drives how students are tested. So I check questions for what they do downstream, not just whether the answer is right.

My background is physics and astronomy, which is why calculation-heavy questions are where I am hardest to replace. I have also built the pipelines that turn exam PDFs into structured, validated question banks.

What I don't do

  • • Statistical analysis of exam results, such as difficulty and discrimination statistics or cut scores
  • • Legal or regulatory interpretation
  • • Rewriting your whole bank or writing new questions at volume
  • • Promising a particular number of errors

Common questions

What formats can you work with?

Spreadsheets, Word files, PDFs, QTI exports, or an old system export. If your questions are on paper or in scans, digitizing them is quoted separately.

Do you use AI?

Yes, for the first pass. A person makes every final call on what gets flagged, and your own experts decide what to change.

Will you find a set number of errors?

No, and nobody honest can promise that. Mature banks mostly have weak explanations, flawed wording and outdated references rather than wrong keys. A clean result is still a useful result.

Can I try it first?

The first step is a small sample: a few hundred questions from one content area, or retired and practice items only. You judge the findings before committing to the rest of the bank.

Have a question bank that needs a second look?

Tell me which exam it is and roughly how many questions. I'll reply within a day to set up a short call.
